Breast augmentation with implants adds volume and shape using silicone or saline implants placed under the muscle or under the gland. At The Sculptique Aesthetics in Mumbai, our board-certified surgeons help you choose size, profile and placement so the result suits your body and goals and looks natural. Whether you want fuller breasts, better symmetry or restoration of volume after weight loss or pregnancy, a detailed consultation helps us recommend the right implant type, size and incision.

We take the time to understand your desired look—natural vs more dramatic—and to explain the options and recovery so you can make an informed decision.

What it is

Breast augmentation involves placing implants—silicone (most common) or saline—through an incision in the crease under the breast (inframammary), around the areola (periareolar) or in the armpit (transaxillary). The implant is placed either under the chest muscle (subpectoral) or over the muscle under the gland (subglandular). Subpectoral placement is most common: it tends to give a natural look, provides soft-tissue coverage and is associated with a lower rate of capsular contracture (scar tissue tightening around the implant). Subglandular placement may be preferred in some cases depending on your anatomy.

Implant size and profile (low, moderate, high) are chosen to match your frame, chest width and desired outcome. We use sizers and discussion (and sometimes imaging) to help you visualise the result. Implants are not lifetime devices: they may need to be replaced or removed in the long term due to rupture, capsular contracture or a change in your preference. We will explain the options, longevity and follow-up so you can plan with confidence.

At The Sculptique Aesthetics we assess your chest width, skin quality and breast shape and discuss your goals in detail. We will recommend implant type, size, profile and incision placement and explain the recovery and what to expect over the years.

Who it's for

Ideal candidates for breast augmentation are women who want fuller breasts, better symmetry or restoration of volume after weight loss or pregnancy. Good candidates are in good general health, at a stable weight and have realistic expectations about size, scarring and the need for possible future surgery (e.g. replacement). Skin quality and chest anatomy influence the best implant and placement.

We do not recommend augmentation for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you plan future pregnancies, we can discuss timing—pregnancy and breastfeeding can alter the result. During your consultation in Mumbai we will examine your breasts and chest, discuss your desired size and look, and explain the options and recovery. We will also discuss how augmentation can be combined with a lift if you have significant sagging.

Benefits

  • Fuller, balanced breast volume and improved shape
  • Choice of implant type (silicone or saline), size and profile
  • Natural-looking contour when well selected for your frame
  • Long-lasting result; implants may need monitoring or replacement over decades
  • Customised incision: crease, areola or armpit
  • Option to combine with lift for sagging breasts

Recovery & results

You will wear a support bra and avoid heavy lifting for several weeks. Swelling and mild discomfort are normal and ease over the first few weeks. We will advise on wound care, bras and when you can resume exercise and normal activities. Drains are rarely needed for straightforward augmentation.

Swelling subsides over four to six weeks; final shape and softness develop over a few months as the implants settle. Implants are long-lasting but are not lifetime devices. Follow-up and imaging (e.g. MRI for silicone implants as recommended) may be advised. Replacement is needed if there is rupture or you desire a change. We will give you a clear aftercare plan and long-term care advice.

Frequently asked questions

Silicone implants feel more natural and are the most commonly used. Saline implants are filled with sterile salt water and have a different feel; they can be placed through a slightly smaller incision. Your surgeon will explain the pros and cons—feel, safety, rupture detection—and help you choose.

Implants are not lifetime devices. Many last 10–20+ years without issue. They may need to be replaced due to rupture, capsular contracture or a change in your preference. We will discuss follow-up and imaging (e.g. MRI for silicone) and what to expect over the long term.

Most augmentations place implants under the chest muscle (subpectoral) for a natural look, better coverage and lower capsular contracture risk. In some cases—e.g. certain body types or revision surgery—over-the-muscle (subglandular) placement may be preferred. Your surgeon will recommend based on your anatomy.

Incisions can be in the crease under the breast (most common), around the areola or in the armpit. Each has pros and cons for visibility and technique. We will discuss which is best for you and how we minimise visible scarring.

Many women with implants can breastfeed, but incision placement and technique can affect milk supply. Periareolar incisions may carry a higher chance of affecting breastfeeding. We will discuss this if future breastfeeding is a consideration.
