Breast reduction removes excess breast tissue and skin to relieve pain and achieve a lighter, proportionate bust. A breast lift (mastopexy) raises and reshapes sagging breasts without significant volume change. At The Sculptique Aesthetics in Mumbai, our surgeons perform both with attention to scarring, symmetry and long-lasting shape. Whether you have heavy, pendulous breasts that cause neck, back or shoulder pain, or sagging that affects your confidence, a detailed consultation helps us recommend the right procedure and technique.
We tailor the incision pattern and amount of removal to your anatomy and goals. Many patients experience significant relief from physical symptoms after reduction and a restored, youthful shape after a lift.
What it is
Breast reduction involves removing gland, fat and skin and reshaping the breast. Incision patterns may include around the areola, vertically down from the areola to the crease, and along the crease (anchor pattern), or a shorter vertical-only pattern depending on size and degree of ptosis. The nipple-areola complex is repositioned higher and the breast is reshaped into a firmer, lighter mound. The amount removed is tailored to your size, goals and safety.
A breast lift (mastopexy) repositions the nipple and removes excess skin with similar incision patterns but removes little or no volume—so the breast is lifted and reshaped rather than reduced. If you have both sagging and a desire for smaller volume, reduction and lift are combined. If you have sagging but want to maintain or add volume, a lift may be combined with implants. We will explain the exact technique we recommend for you and what the scars will look like.
At The Sculptique Aesthetics we assess your breast size, shape, nipple position and skin quality. We discuss your goals—relief of symptoms, target size, scar preference—and recommend the best approach.
Who it's for
Reduction is ideal for women with heavy, pendulous breasts that cause neck, back or shoulder pain, grooves from bra straps, difficulty with exercise or daily life, or emotional distress. A lift suits those with sagging but acceptable volume who want a raised, youthful shape. Good candidates are in good general health, at a stable weight and have realistic expectations about scarring and the possibility that weight gain or pregnancy could alter the result.
We assess your breast size, degree of ptosis and skin quality. Very large reductions may require a longer scar or staged approach. If you plan future pregnancies, we can discuss timing—pregnancy and breastfeeding can affect the result. During your consultation in Mumbai we will examine your breasts, discuss your goals and explain the technique, scars and recovery.

Recovery & results
Drains may be used for a short time after reduction. You will wear a support bra for several weeks. We will advise on wound care, activity and when you can resume exercise and heavy lifting. Most patients return to light activities within two to four weeks. Swelling and bruising ease over the first few weeks; scars will be red at first and then fade over six to twelve months.
Results are long-lasting when you maintain a stable weight. Weight gain or pregnancy can alter breast size and shape. Some sensation changes (nipple or skin) are possible; we will discuss this at your consultation. We will give you a clear aftercare plan and follow-up schedule.

Frequently asked questions
Reduction can affect the ability to breastfeed depending on technique and how much tissue is removed. A lift typically preserves more gland and duct connection. If future breastfeeding is important to you, we will discuss the trade-offs and techniques that may preserve more function.
The amount removed depends on your size, goals and safety. We will discuss a target size—often in terms of cup size or grams removed—and what is achievable. Insurance criteria for reduction (if applicable) may also affect how much we remove; we can discuss this if relevant.
Scars depend on the technique: often around the areola, vertically down to the crease, and sometimes along the crease (anchor). We use careful closure to minimise scarring. Scars fade over 6–12 months and are hidden by bras and swimwear.
Light walking is encouraged early. Strenuous exercise and heavy lifting are usually avoided for 4–6 weeks to protect healing. We will give you a clear timeline at your post-operative visits.
Yes. If you have sagging and want more volume, a lift can be combined with implants. We will discuss whether this is right for you and how we plan the incisions and implant placement.
