A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) flattens the abdomen by removing excess skin and fat and repairing weakened or separated abdominal muscles (diastasis recti). At The Sculptique Aesthetics in Mumbai, our board-certified surgeons tailor the technique—full, mini or extended—to your anatomy and goals so you get a firmer, smoother contour that looks natural and lasts.
Whether you have loose skin and muscle separation after pregnancy or weight loss, or stubborn fullness that does not respond to diet and exercise, a detailed consultation helps us recommend the right approach. Liposuction may be combined in the same operation. We take the time to explain the procedure, incisions and recovery so you can plan with confidence.
What it is
Abdominoplasty addresses loose skin, stubborn fat and diastasis recti (separated abdominal muscles that often occur after pregnancy or weight gain). A full tummy tuck uses a hip-to-hip incision low on the abdomen (placed so it can be hidden by underwear or a swimsuit) and often repositions the navel (belly button) through a separate small opening. The skin and fat are lifted, the muscles are tightened with sutures, and the excess skin is removed. The remaining skin is redraped and closed. A mini tummy tuck targets the lower abdomen only, with a shorter incision and no navel repositioning; it suits those with mild excess below the navel. An extended tummy tuck continues the incision around the flanks for more comprehensive contouring.
Liposuction may be combined to refine the waist or flanks, depending on your anatomy and safety. One or two drains are typically placed to reduce fluid collection and are removed when output is low, usually within a week or two. A compression garment is worn for several weeks to support healing and reduce swelling. At The Sculptique Aesthetics we explain the exact technique we recommend for you and what to expect during recovery.
Who it's for
Ideal candidates for a tummy tuck are adults with excess abdominal skin and/or muscle separation, who are at a stable weight and in good general health. Best results come when you are not planning significant weight loss or pregnancy after surgery—weight gain or pregnancy can stretch the result. Good candidates have realistic expectations about the scar and recovery time.
We assess your skin quality, muscle separation and fat distribution to recommend a full, mini or extended tummy tuck. If you have a large amount of excess skin or significant muscle separation, a full tummy tuck usually gives the best result. During your consultation in Mumbai we will examine your abdomen, discuss your goals and explain the incision plan, recovery and how to maintain your result with a stable weight and healthy lifestyle.

Recovery & results
Initial recovery takes two to four weeks. You will need to avoid heavy lifting and strenuous activity for four to six weeks to protect the muscle repair and reduce the risk of fluid collection or wound issues. We will advise on posture, walking and when you can gradually resume exercise. Drains are removed when output is low; the compression garment is typically worn for several weeks.
Swelling gradually improves over months. The scar will be red at first and then fade over six to twelve months; we use careful closure and aftercare to support optimal healing. Results are long-lasting when you maintain a stable weight. Weight gain or pregnancy can stretch the abdomen again. We will give you a clear aftercare plan and follow-up schedule so you can enjoy a smooth recovery and a result you are happy with.

Frequently asked questions
Liposuction removes fat only; it does not remove excess skin or repair muscles. A tummy tuck addresses skin, fat and muscle. If you have loose skin or muscle separation, a tummy tuck (with or without lipo) is usually recommended. If you have good skin elasticity and only excess fat, liposuction alone may be an option. We will recommend the best approach at your consultation.
Light walking is encouraged early to support circulation. Strenuous exercise and heavy lifting are usually avoided for 4–6 weeks to protect the muscle repair and reduce the risk of complications. We will give you a clear timeline at your post-operative visits based on your progress.
The main scar is placed low on the abdomen so it can be hidden by underwear or a swimsuit. We use careful closure and techniques to minimise tension so the scar heals as finely as possible. A small scar around the navel is also present with a full tummy tuck. Scars fade over 6–12 months.
Yes. Many women have a tummy tuck after they have finished having children and are at a stable weight. If you plan more pregnancies, we usually advise waiting, as pregnancy can stretch the result. We will discuss timing at your consultation.
Diastasis recti is separation of the left and right abdominal muscles, often after pregnancy or weight gain. It can cause a bulge and weakness. A tummy tuck repairs the muscles with sutures, restoring a flatter contour and better core support.
