Pectoral and Calf Implants in Mumbai: Who They Are For and How They Heal
How chest and calf implants differ from fat or filler, who is a sensible candidate, and what four to six weeks of healing actually restricts.

An implant can add the volume training has not produced. It cannot invent a muscle you then neglect, and I will not size it past what your frame and your skin can cover without a visible edge.
— Dr. Aamod Rao
Pectoral implants sit under the chest muscle and add volume to a flat or uneven chest. Calf implants sit under the fascia of the calf muscle and add contour to a thin lower leg. Both use solid silicone, not liquid filler. Both are for people who are already training, or who have a structural reason the muscle never developed, and who have stopped expecting another year of the gym to change the bone and muscle they were given. Recovery means avoiding heavy use of that muscle for about four to six weeks.

This is the decision article. The procedure page for body implants covers the operation in full. If the chest problem is a puffy nipple or a gland rather than a lack of muscle, you are in the wrong article: start with puffy nipples in men.
What the implant is, and where it sits
These are solid, medical-grade silicone blocks, firmer than a breast implant, shaped for the chest or the calf. They do not leak gel. They do not change size with weight the way fat does.
Pectoral. The incision is usually in the armpit crease, sometimes in the lower chest fold. The implant lies under the pectoralis major, so the muscle, not the skin, is what you see moving over it. A chest that is thin because of Poland syndrome, or one side that never matched the other, is a common and sensible reason. A chest that is flat despite years of honest training is the other. A chest that is flat because training has barely started is not.
Calf. The incision is in the crease behind the knee. The implant lies under the fascia over the gastrocnemius, the muscle that makes the inner calf curve. One side or both can be treated. Congenital thin calves, a calf that wasted after injury or clubfoot, and a calf that never responded to training are the histories we see. The incision sits where a crease already is. It is not invisible if you go looking behind the knee. It should not be a mark on the front of the leg.
Biceps implants exist and use a similar logic, through the armpit or inner arm. They are less often the right operation, and we are slower to offer them, because the arm is seen from every angle and a visible edge is harder to hide. If that is the request, the consultation is a longer conversation about size.
Who should not start here
| Situation | What we say |
|---|---|
| You have not trained the area seriously | Train first. An implant on an untrained frame looks like an implant |
| The chest fullness is gland or fat | That is gynecomastia or liposuction, not a pec implant |
| You want a size your skin will not cover | We will downsize. An edge you can see in a T-shirt is a failed brief |
| Weight is changing quickly | Stable weight first. The cover over the implant changes with it |
| You need the muscle for work in the next month | The downtime is real. Book it when you can protect the pocket |
| You are hoping to reverse a large asymmetry from Poland syndrome with the gym | Examination first. An implant may be part of that plan, not a substitute for assessing the chest wall |
Fat transfer can add a small amount of volume to a chest or a calf. It is less predictable, some of it is absorbed, and it will grow or shrink if your weight changes. It is a poor tool for a structural, one-sided chest. We will mention it when the volume you want is small and you have fat to give. We will not pretend it replaces an implant for a chest that needs a stable shape.
The four to six weeks
The pocket has to seal around the implant. Using the muscle hard before that is how an implant shifts.
Chest. No press-ups, no bench, no heavy carrying, no overhead work, for about four to six weeks. Desk work is often a few days to a week, sooner if the job does not use the arms. Swelling makes the chest look bigger than the implant. The size you agreed is the size you see once that swelling leaves, over several weeks. Sleep slightly propped, and do not lie in a way that folds the implant toward the armpit. We will look at position at the reviews. A shift caught early is a different problem from a shift ignored for a year.
Calf. Walking is encouraged. Standing all day is uncomfortable in the first one to two weeks, and the leg swells by evening. A low heel and a compression garment, if you were given one, help. Running, hills, and calf raises wait until you are cleared, commonly four to six weeks. The behind-knee scar must be kept moving gently so it does not tighten, without stretching it open. We show you that. Do not invent a yoga routine for it in week one.
Infection, a collection of fluid, and malposition are the complications we discuss before you book, along with scar quality and the chance you will feel the edge if we oversize. Implants do not have a built-in replacement date the way some breast implants are discussed. They stay unless they shift, become infected, or you decide the size is wrong. A size change is another operation.
Sizing, which is where this goes wrong
Bring photographs of the proportion you want, on a body that resembles yours. Photographs of a competition bodybuilder are not a sizing template for a slim frame. We measure the chest width or the calf length and choose an implant that finishes inside that outline. The most common disappointment we see from elsewhere is an implant that is too tall or too wide for the muscle, so the edge announces itself when the arm is raised or the leg is flexed. Smaller and covered beats large and visible.
Asymmetry is corrected toward matching, not toward making both sides enormous. In Poland syndrome the two sides may never be identical, because the muscle and sometimes the ribs are not identical. We will show you what an implant can close and what it cannot.
Frequently asked questions
At a well chosen size, in ordinary clothes and in movement, the chest or calf should read as your own contour. They can tell when the implant is too big, too high, or sitting in a pocket that has shifted. That is a sizing and placement problem, and it is the thing the consultation is for.
After the pocket has healed, yes, with a graded return. The implant does not grow if you train, and it does not disappear if you stop. Training still changes the muscle over it. Stopping entirely is how the covering muscle thins and an edge becomes easier to see.
The first week is a tight, swollen ache, worse if you stand all day. It is manageable with the tablets you are prescribed, and it is a reason to keep the first fortnight's plans light. It is not a reason to stay in bed. Walking is part of preventing clots.
That can be a good indication, once the injury itself is stable and a physiotherapist has taken the muscle as far as it will go. We are adding volume to a contour. We are not repairing a nerve. If the muscle does not fire, an implant will add shape and will not add function. You should hear that before you book.
Measure the frame before you choose a size
If the chest or the calf has not changed despite real training, or one side never developed, bring that history to consultation. We will say whether a pectoral or calf implant fits the anatomy, what size your skin can hide, and whether the problem is actually gland, fat, or a Poland chest that needs a wider plan.
