Whether you are an adolescent whose chest has finished growing or an adult seeking correction, a detailed consultation helps us recommend the right technique—customised implants, fat transfer or a combination—and explain what to expect from surgery and recovery.

Treatment overview
What it is
Poland syndrome is a rare birth condition that usually affects one side of the body. On the chest, it may involve absence or underdevelopment of the pectoralis major muscle and sometimes the breast or nipple-areola complex. The rib cage may also be affected. Treatment for the chest typically aims to restore volume and symmetry using customised implants (e.g. pectoral or breast implants) or fat transfer (liposuction from one area and injection into the chest), or a combination. The choice depends on the degree of underdevelopment, your build and whether you have enough donor fat for a meaningful fat transfer.
Implants are placed in a pocket under the remaining muscle or under the skin to match the other side as closely as possible. Fat transfer can add natural-looking volume but may require more than one session and can be limited by donor supply. Hand anomalies, if present—such as shortened fingers or webbing—may require separate assessment and treatment by a hand surgeon; we can coordinate care when needed.
At The Sculptique Aesthetics we assess your chest from the front and side, discuss your goals and explain the recommended technique. We will give you a clear picture of what surgery can achieve and what the recovery involves.

Your suitability
Who it’s for
Ideal candidates for Poland syndrome chest correction are individuals with underdevelopment of the chest on one side who wish to improve symmetry and contour. Timing is often discussed for adolescents once chest growth is largely complete (e.g. mid to late teens) so the result is stable. Adults who did not have surgery earlier can also benefit. Good candidates are in good general health and have realistic expectations: we aim for improved symmetry, but perfect mirroring is not always possible.
When hand involvement is present, a multidisciplinary approach may be recommended. During your consultation in Mumbai we will examine your chest (and, if relevant, discuss hand referral), explain the surgical options and outline recovery and follow-up.

Recovery & results
Recovery depends on the procedures performed. With implants, you will need to avoid heavy lifting and strenuous use of the chest for four to six weeks. With fat transfer, donor and recipient areas need time to heal; we will advise on compression and activity. We will give you a clear timeline and aftercare plan.
Results are long-lasting. Implants remain in place unless you choose to change them or have a complication. Fat that survives transfer is permanent, but some reabsorption is normal and a second session may be offered for more volume. We will schedule follow-up to monitor healing and symmetry.
Common questions
Frequently asked questions
Helpful answers about Poland Syndrome, treatment and recovery.
Poland syndrome is a rare congenital condition thought to involve blood supply during early development. It affects the chest (and sometimes the hand) on one side. The exact cause is not fully understood. It is not inherited in a simple way; we can discuss what is known at your consultation.
Chest reconstruction is our focus. If you have hand involvement, we can coordinate with hand surgeons who specialise in limb differences. Your consultation will outline a full plan and any referrals needed.
Implants give predictable, permanent volume and are often used when there is significant underdevelopment. Fat transfer uses your own fat and can look very natural but depends on having enough donor fat and may require more than one session. We will recommend the best option for your anatomy.
Surgery is often timed for when the chest has finished growing—typically mid to late teens for males, and when the breast on the unaffected side has developed for females. Adults can have surgery at any time. We will discuss timing at your consultation.
Choose a surgeon trained in plastic surgery with experience in chest and breast reconstruction. At The Sculptique Aesthetics our surgeons are board-certified and tailor each plan to your anatomy. We encourage you to come for a consultation to discuss your goals and our approach.
