Whether you have hooded upper lids, puffy lower lids or both, a personalised consultation helps us recommend the right approach. When excess upper eyelid skin obstructs vision, blepharoplasty can also improve peripheral eyesight. We take the time to explain the procedure, incisions and recovery so you can make an informed decision.

Treatment overview
What it is
Blepharoplasty addresses hooded upper eyelids—excess skin and sometimes fat that creates a heavy or tired look—and puffy lower eyelids, where fat pads and loose skin create bags or shadows. For the upper lid, the incision is placed in the natural crease so the scar is hidden when the eye is open. Excess skin and, when needed, a small amount of fat are removed or repositioned. For the lower lid, the incision may be placed just below the lash line (external) or inside the eyelid (transconjunctival); the choice depends on whether we are mainly removing fat or also tightening skin.
Upper blepharoplasty can improve both appearance and function: when drooping skin narrows the visual field, surgery can restore peripheral vision. Lower blepharoplasty refines the under-eye area and can be combined with fat repositioning (moving fat pads to smooth hollows) or skin resurfacing for a smoother contour. We do not remove excessive fat from the lower lids, as that can cause a hollow, aged look; the goal is a natural, refreshed appearance.
At The Sculptique Aesthetics we tailor the technique to your anatomy. We may recommend upper only, lower only or both in one session. Eyelid surgery is often combined with a brow lift, face lift or skin treatments for a harmonious rejuvenation of the eye area.

Your suitability
Who it’s for
Ideal candidates for blepharoplasty are adults with droopy or puffy eyelids, excess upper lid skin that creates a tired or heavy look, or lower lid bags and shadows. Good candidates are in good general health, have realistic expectations and understand that blepharoplasty does not remove crow's feet (those are better treated with Botox or skin resurfacing) or correct drooping brows (a brow lift may be needed).
Skin quality, eye shape and the position of the brow all influence the result. Some patients need only upper blepharoplasty; others need lower, or both. When the brow is low, a brow lift may be recommended with or before eyelid surgery so the result is balanced. During your consultation in Mumbai we assess your eyes at rest and in animation, check your visual field if upper lid skin is excess, and explain which technique we recommend and why. We also discuss any dry eye or eye health issues, as these can affect candidacy and recovery.

After your treatment
Recovery & results
Swelling and bruising are normal after blepharoplasty and peak in the first few days. Keeping the head elevated and using cold compresses as advised helps. Stitches are usually removed within five to seven days. We will give you instructions on wound care, use of ointments and when you can wear contact lenses and makeup. Most patients return to light activities within a few days and to normal social and work life within one to two weeks.
Strenuous exercise and activities that raise blood pressure are usually avoided for a few weeks to minimise swelling and protect healing. The eyes continue to refine over several weeks as swelling subsides; final contour is typically visible by two to three months. Results last many years. You will still age, but the improvement in lid position and contour is long-lasting. Some patients choose a touch-up or repeat procedure years later if skin laxity returns; we can discuss this at follow-up.

Helpful answers about Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty), treatment and recovery.
When excess upper eyelid skin obstructs the visual field, blepharoplasty can improve peripheral vision. The procedure does not correct refractive errors (e.g. short-sightedness or astigmatism) but can make the eyes look and function better. We assess your visual field and eye health during your consultation.
Many patients have both upper and lower blepharoplasty in one session for a balanced result. Others need only upper (for hooding) or only lower (for bags). Your surgeon will recommend what best meets your goals and anatomy after examining your eyes and discussing your concerns.
Upper lid incisions are placed in the natural crease and are well hidden when the eye is open. Lower lid incisions are either just below the lash line (where they fade well) or inside the eyelid (no visible scar). With careful technique and healing, scars become inconspicuous.
We typically advise avoiding eye makeup and contact lenses until the sutures are out and the incisions are healed—usually about one week. You will receive specific instructions based on your procedure and healing.
Yes. Eyelid surgery is often combined with a brow or forehead lift, face lift, or skin resurfacing for a harmonious rejuvenation. We will discuss which combinations are safe and appropriate for you during your consultation.
