Chin Implant

Chin augmentation with an implant or genioplasty enhances a weak or receding chin, improving profile and facial balance. At The Sculptique Aesthetics in Mumbai, our surgeons use customised implant selection and precise placement—or, when appropriate, bony genioplasty—so the result looks natural and in proportion with your nose, lips and neck.

A stronger chin can balance a prominent nose, soften the appearance of a double chin and create a more defined jawline. Many patients choose chin augmentation alone; others combine it with rhinoplasty for a harmonious profile. During your consultation we will assess your profile, discuss your goals and recommend the best approach for you.

What it is

Chin augmentation is most commonly achieved with a solid silicone implant placed in a pocket on the chin bone. The implant is selected for size, shape and projection to match your anatomy and desired outcome. The incision can be placed under the chin (submental) or inside the lower lip (intraoral); the submental approach is common and leaves a small scar that heals in the natural crease. The implant is secured to the bone or in a pocket so it stays in position.

Alternatively, bony genioplasty (moving the chin bone) may be recommended for larger changes, asymmetry or when the teeth and bite are part of the plan. This is a more involved procedure that repositions the chin bone and is tailored to your skeletal anatomy. Your surgeon will explain both options and recommend the best one for your goals.

Chin augmentation is often combined with rhinoplasty: improving both the nose and chin in one operation can create a balanced profile and a more satisfying result than either procedure alone. At The Sculptique Aesthetics we take the time to assess your profile from the side and front, and to discuss implant size and placement so the outcome is natural and proportionate.

Who it's for

Ideal candidates for chin augmentation are adults with a weak or receding chin, a desire for better profile balance (often with rhinoplasty), or mild improvement in the neck or jaw contour. Good candidates are in good general health, have realistic expectations and understand that an implant (or genioplasty) changes projection and balance but does not drastically alter their appearance.

Profile assessment is key: from the side, the chin should be in harmony with the nose and lips. When the chin is set back, the nose can look larger and the neck less defined. Augmenting the chin can improve this balance. During your consultation in Mumbai we will examine your profile and front view, discuss your goals and show you approximate before-and-after concepts. We will also discuss whether you are considering rhinoplasty, as combining both procedures is common and can be done in one operation.

Benefits

  • Stronger, more defined chin and improved profile balance
  • Better harmony with nose and lips; can soften nose prominence
  • Permanent result with implants; stable with genioplasty
  • Option to combine with rhinoplasty for full profile harmony
  • Customised implant size and shape for your anatomy
  • Minimal scarring with submental or intraoral incision

Recovery & results

Swelling and mild discomfort are normal after chin augmentation and peak in the first few days. A compression strap or tape may be worn for a short period to support the implant and reduce swelling. We will advise on wound care and when you can shower and resume light activities. Stitches are usually removed within about a week if non-dissolving sutures are used.

Most patients return to work and social activities within one to two weeks. Strenuous exercise and contact to the chin are avoided for several weeks to protect healing. Final contour is visible once swelling has fully resolved—typically by four to six weeks for the broad outline, with subtle refinement over a few months. Results are permanent. The implant remains in place unless you choose to have it removed or replaced; genioplasty results are also permanent. We will give you a clear aftercare plan and follow-up schedule.

Frequently asked questions

Implants give a permanent, structural change in projection and shape. Fillers add reversible volume and can refine the chin and jawline but are not as effective for significant projection. For a lasting, defined chin, an implant (or genioplasty) is usually preferred; fillers suit subtle refinement or a trial before surgery.

Yes. Chin augmentation is frequently combined with rhinoplasty to harmonise the profile. Both can be performed in one operation under one anaesthetic, with one recovery. Many patients find that addressing both produces a more satisfying result than either alone.

The incision is usually under the chin in the natural crease, or inside the lower lip. The submental scar fades well and is hidden when viewed from the front. We will discuss which approach we recommend for you and how we minimise visible scarring.

We select the implant based on your bone structure, skin thickness and desired projection. Different sizes and shapes (e.g. narrow, broad, extended) are available. During your consultation we may use imaging or sizers to show you the approximate result and choose the best fit.

Yes. Chin implants can be removed or exchanged if you wish to reverse or change the result. The procedure is straightforward. We will explain the long-term options at your consultation.
